You Never Know Who You’ll Meet in the Wild

One of our favorite things about guiding moose tours in the Moosehead Lake region?
The people. Every day, someone new steps into the woods with us—families, photographers, nature lovers, and sometimes… artists with a truly wild gift. (Bob Redcays Leaf Art)

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Bob & Cindy Redcay on a Moose Tour. Bob is the creative force behind Funktional Art. Bob’s not your average painter. He works with acrylics on canvas, paper, and preserved leaves, and also creates stunning traditional watercolors. Yes, you read that right—leaves. 🍂

Painting on Leaves? That’s Funktional Magic

When Bob sent me a photo of a moose he’d painted on a leaf, I was floored. (picture at top of post)
To paint a moose on canvas is impressive enough—but to capture its spirit on a delicate, natural surface? That’s next-level wilderness wizardry.

While that particular piece wasn’t directly inspired by our tour, Bob chose to explore the backwoods with us, and we’re honored to be part of his creative journey. Who knows—maybe the misty mornings, winding roads, and antlered giants of Moosehead will show up in a future leaf masterpiece. We’ll be watching with excitement.

Where to See Bob’s Work: Bube’s Brewery Museum

Bob’s Leaf Art is currently on display at Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, now through August 17th, 2025. But this isn’t just any brewery.

It’s also a museum, tucked inside a historic 19th-century complex. The space blends craft beer, fine dining, underground catacombs, and a deep sense of cultural heritage.

So if you’re nearby, stop in. You can sip a pint, explore the past, and admire leaf-sized masterpieces—all in one visit.

To plan your trip, check out their hours, menu, and museum info at bubesbrewery.com.
